Listening is just as important as speaking – communication is a shared responsibility
You are responsible for understanding the speaker’s message
Listening is a skill that we acquire naturally, but there are things we can do to improve this skill:
1.Give your full and undivided attention
2.Stop talking – let the other person speak without interruption
3.Do not respond immediately – take in the information they are providing and absorb it
4.Ask thoughtful questions to clarify what they have said
5.Try to see things from the speaker’s point of view
Listening is just as important as speaking – it is a shared responsibility
There are things we can do, or try to remember to do that can improve our listening.
All these things together are part of active listening.
The real beauty of effective communication is you gain feedback and new ideas. You end up in a different but BETTER place than you thought when going in to the conversation.
