Data entry is the process of inputting information into a computer system or database.

Data entry does not only consist of entering financial data into Excel.  Data entry is also:

Entering transactions into an accounting software

Inputting customer information into a CRM (customer relationship management) software


People think of data entry only as entering data into Excel. Data entry does not only consist of entering financial data into Excel.


As a junior accountant, you will be responsible for a lot of data entry, such as:

Entering or manipulating financial data in Excel (example: logging petty cash transactions)

Inputting data on tax annexures

Other ad-hoc data entry
