Paste Special

When copying and pasting cells, everything in the cell is copied and pasted – not just the value of the cell but also its format

If you copy a cell with a formula, the formula will also copy – this could cause issues

Sometimes you just want to copy and paste the value within a cell

when copying and pasting cells, everything about the cell is copied and pasted — not just the value of the cell, but also its format. And, if you copy and paste a cell that contains a formula, the formula itself will be duplicated rather than the value that formula outputs. This can often be helpful, but sometimes it doesn’t produce the intended result due to relative cell references. Sometimes, you just want to copy and paste the values of cells without bringing along anything else

Paste Special

Once the desired cells are copied, you can select the ‘Paste Special’ function to paste the values, without formulas or formatting

Paste Special

Pasting As Values is a common function used by accountants

We sometimes use this function to help protect data before it is sent to others for review to ensure that:

1.The data sent does not unintentionally change if the recipient accidentally modifies source data

2.The recipient of the spreadsheet doesn’t get distracted by complicated formulas, and instead pays attention to the numbers provided.

Conditional Formatting

Allows you to apply formatting that changes depending on the value of a cell by using rules

For example, you can create a rule that all cells above 100,000 are highlighted red

Makes it easier to read and interpret spreadsheets from a quick glance

Conditional Formatting

You can find the ‘Conditional Formatting’ button under the ‘Home’ tab

You must first highlight the range of cells that you want to create the rule for, then click on the conditional formatting button

You can select a multitude of different pre-set rules or create new rules
