A spreadsheet is a sheet full of rows and columns that contain many boxes called cells.

Columns are labeled along the top of the spreadsheet with letters (A to Z, and so on).

Rows are labeled along the left side of the spreadsheet numerically.

Each one of your spreadsheet layouts might look differently depending on which edition you have.

1.An excel document is called a exercise material, also called a file

2.At the top you find the Quick Access Toolbar, usually use the save button here

3.Under the Quick Access Toolbar is what we call the Ribbon. The ribbon has a lot of functions and commands that allow us to use different features within Excel

4.Spreadsheet is organized with columns and rows. Rows are labeled with numbers and columns are labelled with letters

5.Each box is a what we call a Cell

6.Each cell has a Name, the name is the intersection of the column and row. It starts with a letter based on the column reference followed by a number for the row reference. This is important when it comes to creating formulas and functions

7.Above the columns, we have the Formula Bar. The formula bar shows the contents of a cell

8.On the bottom, we can find the Worksheet Tabs. Each exercise materials can have an almost infinite number of tabs. Tabs can be renamed

That should cover the basics. We will be using Excel all evening so if there are any questions on the layout, please don’t hesitate to ask us.
