Understanding your audience will help you answer all the questions in the previous slides
Ask yourself these questions about your audience:
What do they know about you or the subject of
your message?
How do they feel about the subject?
What is their background?
Age, experience, education, position in organization
Understanding your audience may fall into the ‘code’ we discussed earlier.
In our CFO example, we all have backgrounds in accounting, but the Mgr.. and CFO will have less understanding of the details that you’ve drafted, since they have a higher level view.
Qs: Again, fill out the section for situation 2 on your own.
Qs: What did you identify about your audience?
-Also in the finance team
-Similar experience
-Similar background
-Similar position
Generally your audience is similar to you from a professional stand-point, however we do not know anything aside from that. Professional background is important, but other personal factors need to be considered too.
